Enhance fibre networks without replacing existing infrastructure!

Europe's ageing internet infrastructure received a significant upgrade. Skylane Optics, a leading provider of optical communication transceivers, announced the launch of two innovative products to enhance fibre networks. These products are designed to extend the life of existing broadband networks.

Since the launch of the first fibre optic networks in 2008, demand for internet services has grown massively. The growing need for bandwidth is driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) tools, and rising automation in data centre applications. In response, Skylane Optics will unveil two new transceivers at Network X. These transceivers will enable operators to upgrade their existing fibre networks without replacing the cables.

It is understandable that some now struggle to enhance fibre networks to meet the demands of bandwidth-hungry households, businesses, and data centres,” said Sam Walker, VP of Sales EMEAI. “The highly anticipated new transceivers we launch today will extend the life of networks across the country without the need for major infrastructure replacement projects. Upgrading existing network elements and infrastructure has never been easier”, Mr Walker continued.

The new QSFP28 100G ZR4L-Bidi transceiver allows existing 10G fibre networks to operate at 100G speeds. It works over distances of up to 70km or more, without replacing any infrastructure. Fully compatible with all leading Network Equipment Manufacturer (NEM) switches and rotor platforms, it features a single LC connector interface. These transceivers will enable operators to enhance fibre networks without replacing the cables. This transceiver provides the perfect solution for network operators seeking an easy, minimal-fuss upgrade.

The QSFP28 100G DCO transceiver addresses customer demands for a tunable 100G product. The transceiver provides a ‘Point-to-Point' reach of up to 80km without amplification. Moreover, it significantly increases the capacity of existing infrastructure, making it perfect for high traffic scenarios and backhaul. In addition, it maintains compatibility with existing switchboards, facilitating the delivery of higher traffic and value-added services.

These transceivers have been developed with service providers in mind,” continued Walker. “In instances where a business has acquired another and is looking to integrate an older legacy network into the fold, our products will enable them to save valuable resources without an overhaul of legacy fibre. This will prove invaluable for alternative networks (Altnets) with ambitions to consolidate and expand despite a limited budget.
